2016 NDC Convention; HISTORICAL Info

National DeSoto Club (NDC) 31st Annual Convention The information below is about the 2016 Convention Held in Maryland, sponsored by our club.

Our club was proud to be the Chapter Host for the NDC Annual Convention that was jointly held with the Airflow Club of America's 53rd Annual Meet on July 5 to 10, 2016.

The theme was “Go with the Flow.” The show itself was held on Saturday at the MD State Fairgrounds, in Timonium, Maryland.

Here is what you missed:

This was the 30th anniversary of the first national convention that we hosted in 1986 and we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the DeSoto Owners Club of Maryland, Inc.. In 2014, we became an official chapter of the National DeSoto Club. In 2016, we continued the great traditions of the NDC national conventions and added new features. First and foremost, everyone had an opportunity to spend time with many great folks who shared interest in the collector car hobby. And there were the cars themselves - wonderful DeSotos and the distinctive Airflows, built under the DeSoto (1928-1961) and Chrysler names (1934-1937). There were many ways people enjoyed the cars, including scenic driving tours through the Maryland countryside. People brought their vehicles from as far away as California, Florida, and Canada, some of which were driven, some trailered. The host hotel was the Radisson North Baltimore Plaza in Timonium, Md. Dr. Tom Kenney was the DeSoto Convention Chairman, and Mr. Jon Clulow was the Airflow Convention Chairman.

Activities were planned every day and was it HOT! We had some record-breaking temperature and humidity, but we had options to cover all bases. There were many air-conditioned bus rides to include going to the Nation's Capital, visit Smithsonian Museums. Whether you arrived in your favorite DeSoto, a modern car, by plane or other means, you were guaranteed to have a fun and interesting time in our beautiful state of Maryland. We also covered historic sites such as the world-famous Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, Ladew Topiary Gardens and Butterfly House, the Baltimore Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry where sea battles during the War of 1812 inspired our National Anthem. Needed a relaxing rest stop in the countryside? We had driving tours end at the Boordy Vineyards and Prigel Family Creamery!
